Davids Daily Dose - Thursday April 20th

1/. Ron DeSantis is caught in the abortion trap......watch the ad there as soon as you open
the article......have a barf bag ready....

A few days before the 2022 midterms, when Florida governor Ron DeSantiswas cruising toward an easy reelection victory, his campaign released a truly remarkable ad loosely based on “God Made a Farmer,” a tribute to farmers once delivered by legendary 20th-century commentator Paul Harvey.

2/. Trump's "Pudding Fingers DeSantis" ad is pretty good......

And of course DeSantis fights back with this ad......have at it boys....

3/. The radical courts are fine with Republicans, as long as their radicalism is right wing.....

efore the supreme court overturned Roe v Wade last June, the conservative line on the American judiciary was fairly consistent: judges should be careful interpreters of the rules, not activists; legislatures should decide policy, while courts should simply enforce the law.

4/. Paul Krugman with a very good column about the super rich.....

The rich are different from you and me: They have immensely more power. But when they try to exercise that power they can trap themselves — supporting politicians who will, if they can, create a society the rich themselves wouldn’t want to live in.

5/. Tom Tomorrow's got your MAGA goggles!

6/. Interesting story about the South, and how Republicans gerrymandering is brutal......

While the world was watching the former president surrender to authorities in a New York City courthouse last week, I was watching Nashville and Raleigh. I live in North Carolina, and these two seats of government and capitals in bordering Southern states have been roiled with political unrest in the shadow of the Donald Trump Show.

7/. Having Trump indictment disappointment symptoms?
SNL has your back - a new Trump channel with all of the gory details.....
Very good, most amusing.....

8/. SNL Cold Open - First Warm Day of the Year - mildly amusing, a couple of good zingers....

9/. Has Fox learned something from the Dominion lawsuit? Of course not, they are going to get worse.
Really good story from MSNBC News....

On Tuesday, Dominion Voting Systems settled its lawsuit against Fox News for $787.5 million. What comes next can be summed up in four words: beware and be aware.

“Beware” because Fox News is about to burn brighter and hotter. If you thought the network was bad before it settled Dominion’s defamation suit, let me assure you: You ain’t seen nothing yet. “Be aware” because we are in the midst of a very brief moment to actually hold Fox News accountable.                                                                                 https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/fox-news-lawsuit-dominion-cable-rcna80327

10/. Boomers!

11/. We were in Ft. Lauderdale the Wednesday night of the rain boom, and it was as bad as you've read.

Fort Lauderdale’s flood was worse than any hurricane in local memory, unmatched by anything on the record books and happened faster and harder than anyone planned or prepared for.

Rain filled the city’s underground tunnel, swamped the generator that kicked on at city hall and forced the sixth-largest school district in the country to close for two days. Roads turned to rivers and hundreds of residents fled their waterlogged homes, some to a shelter set up by the Red Cross                        https://www.aol.com/news/climate-change-could-freak-events-110000079.html

12/. An old one, but a classic - Laura Benati IS Melania!

13/. A fascinating story of the man who beat the roulette wheel for big money.....

One spring evening, two men and a woman walked into the Ritz Club casino, an upmarket establishment in London’s West End. Security officers in a back room logged their entry and watched a grainy CCTV feed as the trio strolled past high gilded arches and oil paintings of gentlemen posing in hats. Casino workers greeted them with hushed reverence.

The security team paid particularly close attention to one of the three, their apparent leader. Niko Tosa, a Croatian with rimless glasses balanced on the narrow ridge of his nose, scanned the gaming floor, attentive as a hawk.

14/. Molly Shannon on SNL, meets the writers......the Please Don't Destroy crew.....

15/. Look what those bastards in Tallahassee are up to on the quiet...

The far-reaching measure would undo “living wage” ordinances adopted in communities like Miami, St. Petersburg and Gainesville. These local laws require companies that get government contracts to pay their workers higher wages or better benefits.

16/. Weekend Update #1 - mildly amusing.....

Weekend Update #2 - a little better.....

Weekend Update #3 - Sarah Sherman roasts Colin Jost - very funny indeed.....watch this one.....

Weekend Update #4 - Molly Kearny [new cast member] on Trans kids.....decent, amusing gimmick.....

17/. Neil Young.....live with "The Damage Done"......memories.....

18/. I watched Seasons 1 and 2 then stopped for some reason, but will definitely give "Barry" another try....

or five years now, Barry has not only been one of the very best things on television, but one of the most criminally overlooked. To some extent, this makes perfect sense. It has a bland, terrible, functionally useless title that gives nothing of itself to prospective viewers. What’s more, it has a premise – a comedy about a hitman who decides to become an actor – that sounds like the stuff of the hackiest sitcom imaginable. If these two things were all you knew of Barry, you’d probably give it a swerve as well.

19/. Keri Russell was amazing in "The Americans"......now she has a new
series "The Diplomat", on Netflix.....

On a recent Thursday afternoon, the actress Keri Russell paused in a corner of Brooklyn Bridge Park to admire a starling.

It was technically spring, though the weather had other ideas, and Russell, in subdued plumage, braved the wind in chunky boots and a black puffer jacket. Her hair was tousled. Liner ringed each eye, possibly a souvenir from the previous night’s too many margaritas with friends. She didn’t look much like a woman who devoted years of her life to undermining the American democratic project. Or like a woman now charged with safeguarding it.

Today's church joke

An elderly couple are attending church services…

About halfway through, she writes a note and hands it to her husband.

Today's aging joke
Here's something to think about:

I recently picked a new primary care doctor.  After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned sixty-something.)

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?

'Oh no,' I replied.  'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?

I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said all red meat is very unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'

'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have lots of sex?'

'No,' I said...

He looked at me and said...'Then, why do you even give a shit?
