Davids Daily Dose - Thursday April 7th

Quite a few videos today.....but that's a good thing, isn't it?

The "60 Minutes" segment on how the major banks forged fraudulent loan documents to speed up the foreclosures....13 minutes of nothing you don't know, but middle America probably doesn't, so it's good to see a major news program bring it up........13 minutes...

By the way try to ignore the Lipitor ad - that's really bad stuff.....

An excellent Jon Stewart, skewering idiot Republicans and wimpy Democrats with gusto.....good one....7 minutes....

With a government shutdown imminent on Friday as Congress' time to agree on a budget for the remainder of the fiscal year runs out, Jon Stewart attempted to make sense of it all on Tuesday night's "Daily Show."

A long and detailed article detailing the web of lobbying money the Koch brothers use to benefit their businesses.....and they are everywhere! It's scary how the have quietly taken over the regulatory process so they can continue polluting at will....
If you read this you get a sense how deep the corruption is in this country.....

At an EPA hearing last summer, representatives from Koch Industries argued that moderate levels of the toxic chemical dioxin should not be designated as a cancer risk for humans.

And when Congress moved to strengthen regulation of the financial markets after recent collapses, Koch Industries — a major commodities and derivatives trader — deployed a phalanx of lobbyists to resist proposed changes. When members of Congress sought higher security at chemical plants to guard against terrorist attacks, Koch Industries lobbyists prowled Capitol Hill to voice their opposition.
Charles and David Koch, the owners of the country’s second-largest private corporation, are libertarians of long standing, who contend that government regulations, taxes and subsidies stifle individual initiative and hamper American competitiveness. In recent years, the Kochs have played an increasingly public role as financial angels for conservative causes, politicians and foundations
What’s not so well-known is the activity of Koch Industries in the trenches in Washington, where a Center for Public Integrity examination of lobbying disclosure files and federal regulatory records reveals a lobbying steamroller for the company’s interests, at times in conflict with its public pose.

Auto racing video - when men were men, cars were cars and the world was a much simpler place. Sure was dangerous though....

Great sound track by A. A. Bondy - 3 minutes.....

Amazing story....

Catholic Nun Forcibly Removed From Plane for Wearing "Muslim Garb"

April 5, 2011 DAYTON, OH - Sister Cora-Ann, a Catholic nun from the Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Dayton, Ohio got the surprise of her life yesterday, when she was asked to leave the plane she had just boarded at the Omaha International Airport. "I had just sat down in my seat, and started to thank God for our blessings and recite a prayer in Latin", she recalled, when one of the passengers sitting next to me called the flight attendant.
The passenger was Elizabeth Bennet, who later stated: "It is not that we were prejudiced, but she did seem very suspicious. She was dressed in Muslim garb and just before we were about to take off, she started mumbling something in an Arabian or Talibani-sounding language. What was I supposed to do?"
Damien Thorn was a passenger seated in the adjacent row and said: "I knew there was something sinister about her, the moment she stepped into the plane. She was wearing those burqa clothes that you see the Iranian women wearing, and she only had a very small carry-on bag." The flight attendant responded to the call and asked Sister Cora-Ann for her name, boarding pass and a photo ID.
Blanche Dubois was another passenger sitting close to Sister Cora-Ann and explained: "Once I heard that her name sounded like Koran, I got worried. That does not mean that there is anything wrong with me, does it? I just did not want to die. I was so scared, that I just yelled out her name to all passengers."
Mr. Okonkwo was a passenger seated a few rows behind and stated: "Once we all heard that the passenger's name was Koran, things started falling apart."
Frodo Baggins, a frequent traveler, said he had heard that Muslims do not eat beef. "I did not think that she was Muslim, and to help her out, I took out some of my beef jerky and asked the lady to eat it to prove that she was not a Muslim."
However, Sister Cora-Ann politely refused the beef jerky and reminded the other passengers that it was the time of Lent, during which Catholics often abstain from eating meat. The unrest in the plane kept growing, because most passengers were now convinced that Sister Cora-Ann was indeed Muslim and they demanded that Sister Cora-Ann leave the plane. "I did not want to cause my fellow humans any distress, so I left the plane", she said.
"We were so happy that we could continue our journey", said Frodo Baggins. "Once she de-boarded, it felt like a huge burden was lifted from us."
Apparently, there was indeed a Muslim on the plane, by the name of Abdullah Abdullah the 23rd, sitting in the last row. "Of course I knew that she was a Catholic nun and not a Muslim, because I went to a Catholic school and my favorite teachers were Catholic nuns." Abdullah Abdullah went on to say "But let us face it: If you are a Muslim on a plane and someone else is being asked to leave the plane, the best thing is to be quiet and enjoy the show!"

An editorial from the St. Petersburg Times which spells out how bad it's going to get in this state with the budget cuts coming....read it and weep - it's worse than you think.........
There is no way to sugarcoat it. The separate state budget plans that the Florida House and Senate will start debating today are shortsighted and irresponsible in every respect. By refusing to balance spending cuts with some new state revenue, the Republican leaders are inflicting unnecessary pain on the poor and the elderly, on first-graders and college students, on commuters facing traffic jams on our roads and citizens seeking justice in our courts. Instead of investing in Florida's future, lawmakers are accelerating a decline into mediocrity.
This is the predictable result of trying to bridge a $3.7 billion spending shortfall with no new money after already cutting billions in spending during the Great Recession. Spending cuts that would have been unthinkable in other eras are accepted as unavoidable. For example, both the House and Senate would cut public school spending by more than $400 per student, taking it to its lowest level since 2005. Yet Floridians are supposed to be grateful that the proposed cuts of more than 6 percent are less than the 10 percent cut recommended by Gov. Rick Scott. Let's hold the applause.
The outlook is just as grim in other areas.
....................................................
While legislators are opposed to tax increases, they are shifting more costs of government once shouldered by the state onto the backs of Floridians.

Rachael Maddow interviews Orlando's own Scott Randolf after he was reprimanded for using the word "uterus" on the Florida House floor....funny....3 minutes....

Todays doctor joke

Marvelous answer
A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when he spotted a famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute."

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work? "

The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic.... .

"Try to do it when the engine is running".
