Davids Daily Dose special- Thursday July 12th

1/  The finest and most powerful three minutes of television you will ever see, and should be viewed by all of America......right or left, rich or poor, educated or not......

It's a clip from a new HBO show "The Newsroom", and in response to a college student Jeff Daniels, who I assume plays a reporter or commentator, answers the question "Why is America the Greatest Country on Earth"...

The answer will move you.....

All I can say is wow, wow and wow......

2/  A book some of you may want to take a look at - Chris Hayes with "The Twilight of the Elites"......

His premise is the reason why our country is having what seems like disaster after disaster is that our 'ruling class" has failed us all.......interesting concept......

If history is "one damned thing after another," the short history of 21st-Century America looks like one damned gigantic clusterfuck. First, and worst, national security and intelligence failures enabled the 9/11 terrorist attack, the largest mass murder on the continent in the nation's history. Then came Enron, a colossal fraud and the largest corporate bankruptcy ever. Next we had the pointless and devastating Iraq war, the biggest foreign policy disaster since Vietnam. At mid-decade, we watched a major American city, New Orleans, drown on national television, killing a thousand people. A few years later, the housing bubble popped, wiping out trillions of dollars of wealth and precipitating the largest financial crisis in 70 years and the worst economic recession since the Great Depression. Unbelievably, very few people have been held to account for this catalogue of scandal and disaster – not in Washington, not on Wall Street, not, for the most part, in America's corporate boardrooms.

All of which – and more – has left a banged-up and bewildered American people down on the nation's bedrock institutions, sour on the future, and asking: What the hell happened!?

In an excellent new book, Twilight of the Elites, journalist Chris Hayes argues that what happened is this: Our ruling class failed us.

3/  The Villages, Florida is a Republican stronghold in Lake County but as this fascinating article from Salon points out it's designed and kept that way by the developer and owner, Gary Morse. All of the businesses serving The Vilages are discouraged from helping Democrats, and the politics of North Lake are solid Republican, aided by Mr Morse with his huge donations to right leaning candidates....
The latest round of FEC reports, released Monday, showed that a previously unknown super PAC supporting Florida Republican Senate candidate Connie Mack raked in millions from big-name GOP donors like casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and Texas real estate magnate Harlan Crow. The report also listed a $50,000 contribution from the Villages, a Florida retirement community owned by Gary Morse.
It’s hardly the first big check to Republican candidates from Morse, who is a co-chairman of Mitt Romney’s Florida campaign. The Villages gave $250,000 to Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting Mitt Romney, in June of last year on the same day that his wife, Renee, cut her own $250,000 check. In May of this year, Morse and his wife each chipped in another $100,000. Morse also donated $50,000 to Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s 2014 election fund and each of his three children donated $10,000 the same day, on top of another $100,000 from the Villages corporation. He was a bundler for John McCain in 2008, raising at least $100,000 for the candidate, and a bundler for George W. Bush in 2004, earning the rank of “Ranger” by raising over $200,000. He also bundled at least $100,000 for Bush’s 2000 bid.
But Morse’s biggest contribution to Republicans may not be his checkbook, but his kingdom, the Villages. The massive retirement community, which has over 50,000 residents according to the 2010 recent Census, has become an ATM and must-visit stop for Republican politicians and conservative media figures. “The road to Washington goes through Tallahassee — you have to win Florida — and the road to Tallahassee goes through the Villages,” Rich Cole, the president of the the Villages Republican Club, who was also recently elected chairman of the county Republican Party, told Salon.

An amusing one minute commercial [parody] that hits home.....

And a guy joke......

FIVE RULES FOR MEN TO FOLLOW FOR A HAPPY LIFE:

 1. It's important to have a woman who helps at home,
cooks from time to time, cleans up, and has a job.

 2. It's important to have a woman who can make you
 laugh.

 3. It's important to have a woman who you can trust,
 and doesn't lie to you.

 4. It's important to have a woman who is good in bed,
and likes to be with you.

 5. It's very, very important that these four women
 do not know each other.
