Davids Daily Dose - Saturday March 26th

The New York Times is losing another great columnist - Bob Herbert is leaving the paper today, and this is his last column. He seems to be one of the only senior media figures to write about and care about the middle class and the poor in this country.

However in this, his last column, he summarises the state of this nation eloquently and clearly, and I encourage you can read it in it's entirety so I am not putting in any excerpts.
Brilliant column......he tells it like it is.....

Very good Jon Stewart - here he takes on the new group of Republican Governors and nails them on their hypocrisy.....7 minutes.....

Marco Rubio, the Senator from Koch Industries.
Did you know Florida's junior Senator was the no. 1 recipient of money from the Kochs in the recent elections? Is it really a surprise though, as Marco is the poster child of the Tea Party?
I guess we know how the efforts to make Georgia-Pacific [a Koch subsidiary] comply with Florida's environmental laws are going.....like nowhere....

shows that Rubio was the largest recipient of Koch Industries campaign money for U.S. Senate races in 2010. He also received more money than anyone running for national office outside of Kansas, where Koch Industries is headquartered. Florida is home to a major Georgia-Pacific paper mill (Georgia-Pacific is a subsidiary of Koch Industries) that has been at the center of a major battle between Koch industries and environmental regulators#

Oklahoma has passed a unique law on how doctors can deal with the abortion issue....a little weird, but so is the state.....Brooke Alvarez from Onion News has the story....2 minutes.....

Sometimes you read this stuff and cannot believe such a travesty of justice has happened in our country. This is an amazing story about a guy who took our two mortgages, the so-called liar loans, and was prosecuted for fraud and is serving 21 months.....
As a story, most interesting....as a parable of our justice system, amazing. Just shows you if any branch of the federal government, in this case the IRS, wants to get you you're toast.....

Very strange - this was in the St. Pete Times Friday morning, reporting on Thursdays events in the Sansom bribery case.....
TALLAHASSEE — Closing in on the end of its case, the prosecution in the Ray Sansom trial Thursday called on a string of witnesses in an attempt to prove to jurors that the former lawmaker disguised funding for an aircraft hangar as an educational facility.
Sansom and Odom face grand theft and conspiracy charges. Richburg was also indicted but has agreed to testify against them in exchange for charges being dropped. He could take the stand today, a dramatic moment in a trial that has often been bogged down in the complexities of the state budget process.
Sansom used his clout as the House budget chairman in 2007 to get the $6 million and says he has long seen the need for an emergency operations center in Destin.

The story included lots of detail about the case and the course of the trial....normal stuff....

But this was in the Times this morning - the case seems to have collapsed Friday.....

Prosecutors have dropped corruption charges against a former State House speaker who was accused of scheming to get state money to build an airport hangar for a major Republican donor. Charges against the former speaker, Ray Sansom, and a co-defendant, Jay Odom, were dropped when a judge in Tallahassee rejected a main witness and the prosecutor said he could not continue. Mr. Sansom was charged with plotting to get $6 million in 2007 to build a hangar at the airport in Destin for Mr. Odom, a businessman and Republican donor. Defense lawyers said the money was for an emergency operations center.

What the hell happened? Did someone get to the judge? This was a

very embarrassing trial for the Republicans, so this really isn't

surprising. The fix was in......

Todays ladies joke

Man, I'll tell you, women can be cold until the end!

The doctor, after an examination, sighed and said, 'I've got somebad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your affairs in order..'

The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the waiting room where her daughter had been waiting.

'Well, daughter, we women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well. I have cancer. So, let's head to the club and have a martini.'
After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber.
There were some laughs and more martinis.
They were eventually approached by some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two were celebrating. The woman told her friends they were drinking to her impending end, 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS.'
The friends were aghast, gave the woman their condolences and beat a hasty retreat.

After the friends left, the woman's daughter leaned over and  whispered, 'Momma, I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your friends you were dying of AIDS!   Why did you do that?'

'Because I don't want any of those bitches sleeping with your father after I'm gone.'

And THAT, my friends, is what is called, 'Putting Your Affairs In Order.'

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY...

Women are like phones:
They like to be held, talked to, and touched often.
But push the wrong button and your ass is disconnected.
